Does anyone know if once you put a Product note for a customer, will the customer receive a notification to view their portal?

We set up an alert when a customer sends a note, but when I answer the note, I was wondering how they know I answered them. I asked a trainer and she told me that they can only see the note if they go to their portal.
Seems odd but that is the only answer I got.
Ahh got it. Guess in those cases we would need to send a separate email.
