Layout Modifiers can be used in your system to charge for cutting or seams. They are unique from normal modifiers, which are covered separately. To enable, navigate to Management Module > Machines > Layout Modifiers.

This article covers the following topics:

There are two types of Layout Modifiers available, Cutting and Seams. Enabling cutting allows you to calculate costs and charge per cut. For example, if you cut a 24" x 36" item from a parent size of 48"x 96", the system will calculate how many cuts are needed and the rate you will charge per cut.

Enabling seams will automatically add Seam costs to the total cost of a part. For example, If you're printing a 10'x10' banner, but your machine can only print a 64" banner, this Modifier tells the system that you'll need to Seam this product.

NOTE:  Using the cutting or seam layout modifier will increase the retail price to your customer, and charges will be included in the product total.

Setting Up Cutting

  1. Select Cutting from the dropdown menu.
  2. Select the Income Account and Expense Account for this Layout Modifier.
  3. By checking the Cutting Used by Default box, machines that use this function will automatically add cutting costs to the total cost of a part.
  4. Check Include Setup Fee if you wish to include a setup fee amount.
  5. Enabling Has Minimum Charge will allow you to enter a minimum charge amount. This checks the modifiers total calculated retail price against the entered minimum charge. The greater of the two values will always be used.
  6. Enter the number of sheets you can cut at a time. This number is used to help calculate the total number of cuts on a given job.

NOTE:  This setting only applies to sheet-fed layouts. Roll-fed layouts will automatically use 1 as the number of sheets per cut.

  7. Under Modifier rate, select the pricing type you wish to use. For this example, we're using Market-Based Pricing.
  8. Set the Retail Amount and Base Cost for each cut.
  9. When you've completed the above information, click Save Properties.
